Commotion
As we are born
You breathe life into us
Your breath of life sustains us
As we search for You.
The very breath we breathe
Demands praise
And yet we suck it back in
Keeping it to ourselves.
We look upon creation
Uttering awe at the splendor before us;
eyes not seeing.
We hear the sounds of life around us,
Holding our breath to get a better listen;
ears not hearing.
We drink in and taste all that is good,
Our mouths watering with delight;
mouths not tasting.
We reach out with desire to hold and touch,
Aching for contact, longing for connection;
bodies not feeling.
You are in it all
Yet we see You not.
We can't hear Your voice
Above the commotion.
We refuse to drink You in
Our mouths are stuffed to silence.
We reach for everything but You
And fill our hands with dust.
Always coming up with empty arms,
starving mouths,
deaf ears.
blind eyes.
Open us up to You.
May we see You all around,
hear You everywhere,
taste Your goodness,
rest in Your arms,
Love, and be loved.
